National Clubs Match VS Solihull Arden
Ardencote progressed to the last 16 of the National Racketball competition this week by disposing of local rivals Solihull Arden by 3 matches to 2. Up first was club captain Paul Chadwick who struggled to get into his game losing the first 2 sets, he pulled it back in the 3rd and looked like he would take the match, but a titanic effort from his opponent Tom Hudson managed to seal out the win. 1-0 Solihull. Playing at 4th string was Ardencotes new member Jack Beere who went through his experienced opponent Glen Truman 3-0 and tieing up the overall match score at 1-1. Much fancied Jon Summers went on next but like Chadwick struggled to find any form and quickly found himself 0-2 down. Jon managed to grind out the next 2 sets in a commendable effort but the damage was done and he lost the final decisive set. Ardencote were now 1-2 down and when Matt Pugh quickly found himself 0-2 sets down things were looking grim for the cote but experience paid off and his much younger opponent soon started struggling for fitness and Pugh ground out a 3-2 win sending the overall match score all square with one match remaining. Guy Pearson went on against much improved Andy Warmingon but with the entire match reliant upon him Guy turned on the skill and overcame Warmington comfortably 3-0. So an eventful 3-2 win over a resilient opponent sets up a tie against either Sutotn Coldfield or Stourbridge in the last 16 and gives Ardencote a real chance of progression to the National Quarter Finals.
